Artist Statement

I realized recently that this new work has, inadvertently, morphed into sculpture. The pieces are still vessels. I still use the potters’ wheel.  But they are not intended to be functional. They are metaphors, vessel metaphors; and they are abstractly figurative.  From a centered beginning we journey through life. We dance, we hurt, we are bandaged, sometimes we are put back together.  We are mortal beings. I think these pieces say that through all of this, we are still beautiful…imperfectly perfect.  This work is about the beauty of “being mortal”.
